In the world of seo, search engine optimization content rules the web. The more pages and different content your site has related to a common subject the better the chance a search engine will list it. Search engines want to provide the best sites related to the keyword searched. So if your site has 5 pages and minimal content, and another has 15 pages and lots of content, which site would you rather find in the top ranks while doing a keyword search?

The web is all about linked content and information. If your site doesn't link out to similar content you are like a broken link of a chain, or dead end. Likewise and more importantly, if no web sites link to you, your site appears to not be a relevant resource to search engines. Links to your web site are important, but they should be from high ranked web sites with relevant content to yours. If you sell Roofing Supplies a link to you from a Fishing web site won't improve your search engine rank by much.

Search engines can only see text. One of their key functions is to read web pages. Granted most human visitors won't read lots of text, but since search engines can not see pictures, graphics or animations, you need text, text, text. Formatting of the text is also important. Some instances of keywords should be bold. Some instances of keywords need to be hyper links to pages on your own web site or other web sites.

Page Titles:

Page Titles play a key role in seo (search engine optimization) success. Every page of your web site has (or should have) different content and thus the Page Title for each page should be based on said pages content. It's more involved than this, just remember page titles are important.

Keywords:

If a key word does not appear on a given page do not use it in the keyword meta tag. Thus each page should have a keyword list comprised of words and phrases taken directly off the page.

Alt Tags:

Pictures on your web site should have alt tags in the code. Alt tags describe the picture to a blind person when using a text reader. Some se's also use it as part of ranking web sites.

Example:

Say you have a beach house in Panama. The alt tag for a picture of a beach house in Panama should be "beach house Panama". And Whoa, you just used 3 primary keywords on your page.

Links On Your Site Pages:

Try to use each pages main keyword or phrase 2 - 3 times as a text link (word links, not image links) on said pages.
